UKC vs PKC Coon Hunting: Which One is Right for You?

If you have been dabbling in coon hunting for any length of time then you have probably heard of UKC and PKC. While both clubs are worthy to join they are very different. If you are debating on whether or not to join, or just want to know what all of the hype is about, I have listed the positives and negatives of both clubs.

Here is a UKC vs PKC showdown:

UKC (United Kennel Club)

UKC is my preference. When we host the hunts at our club I find that UKC members are a lot more laid back. One of the reasons for this is that you are hunting for titles rather than money. You will hunt your dog all year and be given performance points on how well your dog does. At the end of the year your points are tallied and you could be awarded money if your coon hound did well.

Also, the entry fee for UKC hunts is a lot less than those of PKC. If you want more information on UKC or would like to join, you can visit their website here.

PKC (Professional Kennel Club)

One of the best things about the PKC is that when you are in competition hunts you stand to win a whole lot more money than you would in UKC hunts. I know some hunters who make a living just by competition coon hunting.

PKC has higher entry fees and the reason for this is because the rewards are higher. People hunting in PKC are serious and focused on the upcoming hunt. PKC has progressive scoring on tree and the hunt is pretty fast paced.

Which is Better?

I can’t tell you which you will like better. The above is just a brief summary. You will have to try them both to see which one suits you best. They both come with good points and drawbacks.
